But my concern is that I tried to install 10.10 on my old macbook using a usb drive and I got this message: This copy of the Install OS X OS X Name application cant be verified.

It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.

Some older installers have expired signatures which will give that error.

That trick is: 1.

Go to the date and time preference pane and UNCHECK the option to set date and time automatically.

Now, manually set back your Macs clock to, say, 2012, 2013, something like that.

Never would have thought of it, but sadly I redownloaded the installer and everything worked with that new copy.

I could have sworn I previously saw an App Store link for Yosemite after High Sierra was released, but I may have been imagining things.
